About Omiš

Omiš is an old historic town, situated on the mouth of the river Cetina which dates back to times of Antique. In the Middle Ages Omiš was a seat of Pirates for what is well-known today. From that period still exist two fortresses: Mirabela (Peovica) and Fortica (Old historical Town).
Fortess Mirabella is in the hart of the historic core and from there you can see whole Omiš. Fortress Fortica is on top of the hill and from there is possible to see the entire Channel of Brač and island of Brač, Hvar and Šolta, as well as mouth of river Cetina and Middle Poljica what was very important for Pirates because they could see large area at land and at Sea.
At the beggining of the 20th Century, with arrival of the industry and tourism, Omiš begins upward trajectory in it’s development. Today Omiš is historical centar with rich cultural heritage and very populat touristic destination. Next to fortresses Mirabella and Fortica, rich cultural offer of town Omiš is fully completed with many historical churches, remains of towers and remains of Old town core which stands proudly against modern buildings.
In summer, Omiš is stage for many social events. Some of them are Festival of Dalmatian Klapas which unite songs of traditional Dalmatian singing, very popular Pirates Nights and Pirate Battle that are held every summer in high season, as well as „Crazy Jump“ and many others.
With beautiful city sandy beach and sea on one side, and mountains and canyon of river Cetina on the other, town of Omiš is starting point for many adventures and sport activities.
